His Grace Senior Living Center has been in operation since 2016 under the direction of Charleene Hollowell.
Charleene comes from a family of educators, both her mother and father taught elementary school and so did she and her sister. The 4 of them together have over 100 years of teaching experience combined.
Charleene was an educator for 10 years in Los Angeles Unified School District, and had a Texas state licensed daycare for 7 years, where she taught children to read, write sentences, add & subtract all before Kindergarten.
It was during this time when she had a state licensed daycare that she became interested in senior care. When she opened His Grace Senior Living Center she actually began to take in a few seniors in her home 1 or 2 while still operating her daycare.
She loved seeing intergenerational activity and how it brought smiles to both the young and old. However, as time went on she chose to close her daycare and cater to the seniors in her community.
Over the years she and her staff have gained an extreme amount of hands-on experience providing care for her clients whether they were on home health or hospice.
During the pandemic Ms. Charleene and her staff took care of 26 COVID-19 patients, aiding clients as they transitioned while comforting families.
Over the years while helping families with their loved ones she discovered the multitude of needs and struggles that seniors are faced with.
Charleene recognized that most families had difficulty with getting their senior loved one’s needs met, such as: ongoing doctor visits, keeping them socially, spiritually, or physically active, providing healthy nutritional meals for them, and being in an affordable facility that their loved one actually would want to live in.
During this time of working with seniors, Ms. Charleene’s aging parents were also facing challenges with everyday activities like daily housekeeping, organizing important documents, keeping up with doctor’s appointments, completing large & small home maintenance projects, staying active in their community and feeling valued among younger generations.
As a result of her love for them she drove back and forth from Texas to Louisiana on weekends and holidays to help as much as possible, to organize records, deep clean their home, sometimes bringing her mom to the doctor, and coordinating with others to get big and small home maintenance projects completed.
After her mom’s passing in 2018. She continued to assist her father until it became necessary, because of his declining health, to come live in her facility.
His Grace Senior Living Center truly is a place where Charleene’s vision of seniors thriving and enjoying moments in their latter years while being treated like family has come to life.
Ms. Charleene is the owner & Director of Operations for His Grace Senior Living Center, she holds speaking engagements about “What to Expect In the Golden Years” and she is the podcast host for “Table Talk for Seniors”.
