Charlene Hallowell
Boarding Home Expert in Harris County
Founder, His Grace Senior Living
EST. 2016
Charlene Hallowell is a residential boarding home expert serving Katy, Houston, and the greater Harris County area. As the founder of His Grace Senior Living, she has become a trusted authority for families navigating the transition from independent living to supportive residential care.
Her work focuses on one of the most misunderstood sectors in senior living: small residential boarding homes. These environments, often called personal care homes or residential care homes, provide a high-touch alternative to large assisted living facilities. Charlene has spent years educating families, discharge planners, and community leaders on how these homes work and when they are the right fit.
Before entering senior care, Charlene built her career in education. She taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District and later operated a Texas-licensed childcare program, giving her more than a decade of experience guiding individuals through developmental and life transitions. That background shaped the model she uses today—structured support delivered in a relationship-centered environment.

She founded His Grace Senior Living with a clear vision: create a home where seniors can remain as independent as possible while receiving consistent support, personal attention, and spiritual care. The result is a boutique residential environment designed for seniors who do not thrive in large facilities but need more support than living alone can provide.
As an operator, Charlene oversees daily care, resident coordination, and family communication. As an educator and advocate, she helps families understand:
– What a boarding home is and how it differs from assisted living
– When a senior should transition from living alone
– What support levels look like in residential care
– How to compare costs between home care and boarding homes
– What to expect after hospital or rehab discharge
– How to choose the right environment in Harris County

Charleene recognized that most families had difficulty with getting their senior loved one’s needs met, such as: ongoing doctor visits, keeping them socially, spiritually, or physically active, providing healthy nutritional meals for them, and being in an affordable facility that their loved one actually would want to live in.
During this time of working with seniors, Ms. Charleene’s aging parents were also facing challenges with everyday activities like daily housekeeping, organizing important documents, keeping up with doctor’s appointments, completing large & small home maintenance projects, staying active in their community and feeling valued among younger generations.
As a result of her love for them she drove back and forth from Texas to Louisiana on weekends and holidays to help as much as possible, to organize records, deep clean their home, sometimes bringing her mom to the doctor, and coordinating with others to get big and small home maintenance projects completed.
Families often come to Charlene during moments of urgency—after a fall, hospitalization, or decline in independence. Her role is to bring clarity, not pressure. She walks families through options, explains the system, and helps them make informed decisions about safety, independence, and long-term planning.
His Grace Senior Living reflects her philosophy. With a small resident population and hands-on leadership, the home provides individualized attention, coordinated medical support, home-cooked meals, and a faith-centered environment focused on dignity and connection. Residents are known personally, not by room number.
Charlene is also recognized locally for her educational outreach. Through speaking engagements, community education, and digital content, she provides guidance on aging, independence, and the realities families face when a loved one needs more support. Her goal is to raise awareness of high-quality boarding homes and ensure families in Harris County understand all available options—not just large assisted living communities.
She continues to advocate for relationship-driven senior living and remains committed to helping families navigate transitions with clarity, compassion, and expertise.
